Regional Centre Coimbatore

The Industrial Extension Project on small rice farm machinery at Coimbatore, financed by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) through the ICAR, was established at the TNAU Campus, Coimbatore in October 1983 to provide manufacturing and marketing assistance to small manufacturers in commercializing small farm equipment developed by research institutions and to liaise with farmers and manufacturers in adoption of these equipment. The IRRI phase of the project completed in September 1986. The centre has been playing the quintessential role of pivotal agency in transfer of mechanisation technologies by linking the product with manufacturers and farmers. The centre was upgraded as Regional centre of ICAR-CIAE from April 2015.

The Regional Centre has mainly following thrust areas under which all research activities are carried out:

1. Development of Engineering Technologies for Horticultural Mechanization
2. Development of technologies for processing of Millets
3. Machinery for Precision Agriculture
4. Development of Entrepreneurship for manufacturing
5. Development of business model and entrepreneurship for custom hiring
6. Entrepreneurship development and Agro Business Model Promotion
7. Women in Agriculture
8. Testing of Agricultural machineries
