The Industrial Extension Project on small rice farm machinery at Coimbatore, financed by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) through the ICAR, was established at the TNAU Campus, Coimbatore in October 1983 to provide manufacturing and marketing assistance to small manufacturers in commercializing small farm equipment developed by research institutions and to liaise with farmers and manufacturers in adoption of these equipment. The IRRI phase of the project completed in September 1986. The centre has been playing the quintessential role of pivotal agency in transfer of mechanisation technologies by linking the product with manufacturers and farmers. The centre was upgraded as Regional centre of ICAR-CIAE from April 2015.
